White CatsPure white cats are the beauties of the cat world.
Not limited to any particular type or breed, they are white because they carry the dominant White Masking Gene, W, which masks any other genes for color that the cat might carry. There is also a White Spotting Gene, S, which masks cat coat color in a pattern of spots, ranging from cats with white 'mittens and vest' (' .... and white' cats), through to cats that are mostly white, with spots of color (harlequin cats), or white with spots of color on the head and tail (van cats). In hot climates, all cats with white ears (or even one white ear!) should be kept out of the sun in summer, as their white ears burn easily, and have a high risk of eventually developing skin cancer. A small percentage of blue-eyed white cats are deaf. They can still make wonderful pets for the right owners, but they should be kept indoors, as they can't hear oncoming dangers such as dogs or cars. White Cat StoriesWhite cats seem to have a particular mystique, judging by the stories written about them. We've located the following white cat stories for your reading pleasure:
